India’s wicketkeeper, KS Bharat, has delivered a confident message ahead of the crucial 2nd Test against England in Visakhapatnam, dispelling concerns after a 1-0 deficit in the series. Bharat, addressing the press conference on the eve of the match, highlighted India’s historical resilience, especially when trailing early in a series.
After England secured a 28-run victory in Hyderabad, Bharat offered a timely reminder to Ben Stokes and the English side about India’s ability to bounce back. The wicketkeeper emphasized that recent history, including the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the 2021 series against England, showcases India’s prowess in turning around a series from a 0-1 position.
“We are good at bouncing back after losing the first Test, so as a team we’re looking to do well. England won in Hyderabad. Ollie Pope played well, and some of the sweeps and reverse sweeps their guys played were impressive. Credit where it’s due. They deserved to win. But like I said, we have bounced back previously as well, so yeah, looking forward to this next challenge,” expressed Bharat with confidence.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by injuries to key players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, Bharat emphasized the importance of a positive mindset and a focus on the upcoming challenges. He shared insights into the team atmosphere after the first Test, highlighting a relaxed approach and clear instructions not to panic.
“After the game, the atmosphere is absolutely relaxed. They asked us not to panic. The instruction is very clear that it’s a long Test series, and we have played such series in the past. And we as individuals have to focus on good things. Things that we want to try, which we want to implement. We just want to play good cricket. That’s the message from the captain and the coach,” added Bharat.
With a five-match Test series offering ample opportunities for a turnaround, Bharat stressed that despite the current fifth position on the WTC table, it’s too early to draw conclusions. The wicketkeeper’s words echo a collective determination within the Indian camp to overcome challenges and emerge stronger in the upcoming tests against England.
