In a stunning display of prowess, India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal not only showcased his brilliance with a double century but also matched the legendary Wasim Akram’s world record during the third Test against England in Rajkot. Jaiswal’s remarkable innings propelled Team India to a historic victory, securing a 434-run win over England, their most significant Test defeat since 1934.
Jaiswal’s knock of 12 sixes in a single Test innings not only fueled India’s dominance but also equaled Akram’s sensational feat. Wasim Akram, reminiscing about his own record, acknowledged Jaiswal’s achievement, emphasizing the challenging circumstances he faced during his entertaining innings against Zimbabwe in 1996.
“My record (most sixes in an innings) wasn’t broken, it’s been equalled by Yashasvi Jaiswal. People talk a lot that it was Zimbabwe, but it wasn’t that easy. I remember we were around 170/6 when I went to bat,” shared Akram.
Jaiswal’s impressive double century set multiple records in the Rajkot Test. Notably, he became only the third Indian batter to score consecutive Test double hundreds, showcasing his prowess with the bat. At just 22 years and 49 days, Jaiswal stands as the third youngest player to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring two double tons in Test cricket.
In the newly-released ICC Test rankings, Jaiswal made a significant leap, climbing 14 spots to secure the 15th position. His outstanding performances, including scores of 209 in Visakhapatnam and an unbeaten 214 in Rajkot, contributed to India’s dominant display against England. Team India collectively smashed a record 28 sixes in the Rajkot Test, marking the highest number by any team in a single Test match against England.
Jaiswal’s ascent into the top 20 of ICC Test rankings reflects his growing stature as a dynamic and impactful batsman. With a total of 545 runs in the first three Tests against England, Jaiswal has not only etched his name in the record books but has also become a key player for the Indian team, adding depth to their formidable batting lineup.
