The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the rescheduling of two Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 matches, citing logistical reasons and security concerns.
Originally slated to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 17, 2024, the match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will now be played one day earlier on April 16, 2024. This decision comes after reports of Kolkata Police’s inability to provide adequate security for the match due to the impending general elections in Bengal.
Additionally, the game between the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Titans, initially scheduled for April 16, 2024, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, has been pushed back to April 17, 2024. This adjustment aims to accommodate the logistical challenges posed by the revised fixture.
KKR, slated to host the Rajasthan Royals on April 16, 2024, has been forced to modify its schedule due to security concerns surrounding the upcoming elections in Bengal. With the state’s participation in the first round of the general elections scheduled for April 19 and subsequent voting in Kolkata on June 1, the Kolkata Police expressed reservations about providing adequate security coverage for the match.
In response to the situation, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) suggested either advancing the match to April 16 or rescheduling it for April 18 to alleviate security concerns.
Meanwhile, KKR, currently stationed in Visakhapatnam, is preparing for their upcoming clash against the Delhi Capitals, scheduled for Wednesday.
The rescheduling of these IPL fixtures underscores the BCCI’s commitment to ensuring the safety and smooth execution of matches amidst evolving logistical challenges and security considerations.
