In a disappointing defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis lauded the bowling prowess of Mayank Yadav, despite the loss at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday night.
Reflecting on Mayank’s performance, du Plessis highlighted the newcomer’s ability to control length and maintain discipline on the field. “It’s the new action you haven’t faced before, and especially if there is a bit of pace behind it, that’s really promising,” du Plessis remarked. “What impressed me tonight was his ability to control length and bowl with some really good discipline as well.”
Despite the defeat, du Plessis emphasized the importance of partnerships in batting and urged his team’s batters to step up. “You need two guys to bat together and get a partnership, and we never got that,” he lamented. “Disappointing that we didn’t do it with the bat so we got to make sure the strong characters in the dressing room really put their hand up.”
While RCB managed to pull things back in the middle overs with the ball, they allowed LSG to gain momentum in the powerplay, ultimately impacting the outcome. KL Rahul, captain of LSG, emphasized the importance of using the pitch to their advantage and staying calm under pressure.
Rahul also praised Mayank Yadav for his exceptional bowling performance, highlighting the youngster’s professionalism and dedication to fitness. “He’s quietly patiently waited for two seasons in the dug-out, missed out last year because of injury unfortunately,” Rahul observed. “He’s really professional in looking after his body, it’s really good to see and has a great temperament.”
Despite Mayank’s outstanding performance, he remained focused on his ultimate goal of representing the country. “This is just a start and my focus is on the main goal,” Mayank stated. “To bowl with pace, a lot of things are required in terms of fitness. So my focus is on dieting and recovery, ice bath and all. That is helping me at this time.”
Mayank’s dedication and determination reflect his aspiration to excel not just in IPL but also on the international stage, showcasing the relentless pursuit of his dreams amidst the challenges of professional cricket.
