Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s star fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been grappling with a challenging run of form in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The Indian cricket team standout has encountered difficulties finding his stride, evident from his modest performance of only four wickets in six matches, coupled with an elevated economy rate of 10.40.
During the recent IPL 2024 encounter against the Mumbai Indians, Mohammed Siraj faced another daunting outing as opposing batters targeted him, resulting in a costly spell where he conceded 37 runs in just three overs. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, in a candid analysis on Star Sports, expressed disappointment with Siraj’s performance, suggesting that a brief hiatus from the game might be beneficial for the pacer.
Harbhajan emphasized the need for Siraj to introspect and identify the underlying issues affecting his gameplay. Despite enjoying a successful stint in 2023, Siraj has struggled to replicate his form in the IPL.
“If I were part of the management, I would give him rest for a couple of games. Let him go back and think about what’s been happening with him. He has been the same Siraj whom we have seen taking wickets with the new ball, whether it’s Test cricket, one-day cricket, or even in this format. He has been a champion bowler for Team India and even for RCB. I feel he is not doing what he is required to do,” Harbhajan remarked.
Echoing similar sentiments, Harbhajan highlighted Siraj’s apparent fatigue and suggested that a break could serve as a rejuvenating change.
“I think he is too tired. He is not there mentally, physically also. He needs to take rest. He has been playing a lot of cricket. He played 4 Tests against England. He bowls a lot of overs. He looks very tired, physically and mentally. With this kind of hammering (vs MI), it’s hard for any bowler to wake up the next day and feel alright. I have gone through these kinds of situations. You have to give yourself a bit of time, think about your game, and relax a bit. I am sure Siraj will come back strong,” he concluded.
