Chris Jordan made history on Sunday by becoming the first English bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 Internationals. The remarkable feat occurred during England’s T20 World Cup match against the United States in Barbados. Jordan’s hat-trick, which came in the 19th over, saw him dismiss Ali Khan, Nosthush Kenjige, and Saurabh Netravalkar, wrapping up the USA’s innings at 115.
Adding a personal touch to this achievement, Barbados is where Jordan was born and raised, making this milestone even more significant for the pacer. He is now the eighth bowler to secure a hat-trick in T20 World Cups and the second in the current edition, following Pat Cummins’ two hat-tricks in consecutive matches against Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the Super Eight stage.
Before Jordan’s heroics in the 19th over, the USA had lost six wickets and were struggling at 115, with Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh hoping to give their team a strong finish. Jordan struck on the first ball of the over, getting Anderson caught at long-on by Harry Brook for 29. After a dot ball, he clean bowled Ali Khan with a length ball that uprooted the off-stump. He continued his stellar form by trapping Kenjige in front of the stumps with the next delivery. Although Kenjige reviewed the decision, it was more a formality since both reviews were remaining. Jordan completed his hat-trick by bowling Netravalkar with a delivery that crashed into the leg stump.
Chris Jordan finished with outstanding figures of 4/10 in just 2.5 overs, leading his team off the field at the mid-innings break. His performance was pivotal in restricting the USA to a modest total.
Earlier in the match, England’s captain Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bowl. The English bowlers dominated the innings, with Sam Curran and Adil Rashid each taking two wickets, setting the stage for Jordan’s historic achievement.
