In a recent revelation, Hardik Pandya shared insights into his new role as the Mumbai Indians skipper for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, addressing the transition from former captain Rohit Sharma and his return to top-level cricket following injury rehabilitation.
During a recent event, Pandya was questioned about whether he had the opportunity to discuss the leadership change with Rohit, to which the Indian all-rounder provided a straightforward response.
“Yes and No” I haven’t got a lot of time to talk with Rohit because he has been touring. I will definitely catch up when he links up with the team,” Hardik said at the event.
Despite the unexpected shift in leadership, Pandya emphasized that Rohit Sharma would continue to play a pivotal role as a guiding force during the IPL season. “Rohit’s support will remain unchanged. This team’s success has been built under his leadership, and my goal is to carry forward that legacy. He will always be there for me, guiding me along the way,” Pandya affirmed in a media interaction.
Responding to fan reactions regarding Rohit’s removal as captain, Pandya maintained focus on the sport. “While we respect fans’ opinions, our focus remains on the game and its demands. I prioritize what’s within my control, and I respect the fans’ perspective,” he stated.
Pandya’s return to top-level cricket follows a period of rehabilitation after sustaining an ankle injury during the ODI World Cup at home in October. Assuring fans of his fitness, Pandya stated, “I have no concerns about my body, and I plan to play all the games in the IPL. Despite the injury setback, I’m fully prepared to contribute to the team’s success.”
As anticipation builds for the IPL 2024 season, fans eagerly await Pandya’s leadership debut for the Mumbai Indians, with expectations high for another thrilling campaign filled with excitement and stellar performances on the cricket field.
