England has secured a spot in the Euro 2024 knockout stage with a game to spare after Spain’s 1-0 win over Albania. This victory also confirmed the progression of the Netherlands and France from Group D.
Gareth Southgate’s team, with four points from a win against Serbia and a draw with Denmark, is guaranteed to be one of the four best third-placed teams. They will face Slovenia in Cologne on Tuesday, already assured of advancing. England will top Group C with a win and could still lead with a draw if Denmark does not beat Serbia.
If England wins the group, they will play on Sunday in Gelsenkirchen against a third-placed side from Group D, E, or F. Finishing as runners-up would pit them against hosts Germany in Dortmund on Saturday. If they place third, they will face Group F winners Portugal in Frankfurt or Group E winners in Munich.
