In a recent exchange on social media, former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan didn’t hold back in criticizing renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle for his remarks on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during an IPL 2024 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Bhogle had suggested that CSK might have been 20 runs short of the par score at the Wankhede Stadium, considering the pitch conditions and dew factor. However, Sivaramakrishnan saw this as a slight against Chennai and took to social media to express his disagreement.
“You guys love to put Chennai guys down, you have done it with me but not with CSK. Mumbai freaks,” Sivaramakrishnan’s response to Bhogle’s post read.
He didn’t stop there, further questioning Bhogle’s contribution to Indian cricket in another comment. Although Laxman Sivaramakrishnan later deleted his responses, his sentiments sparked a conversation among cricket enthusiasts.
Contrary to Bhogle’s prediction, the CSK bowlers delivered a stellar performance, successfully defending their target against MI. Despite a formidable innings from former MI captain Rohit Sharma, who scored an unbeaten century, the visitors emerged victorious by 20 runs.
However, the match also stirred controversy, with former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar criticizing MI’s current captain, Hardik Pandya, for what he deemed as “ordinary bowling” and “ordinary captaincy.” This critique prompted MI batting coach Kieron Pollard to express frustration over the undue criticism directed at Hardik.
“I am sick and fed up of (people) looking to pinpoint individuals,” Pollard stated after the game, defending Hardik against the backlash.
The exchange between Sivaramakrishnan, Bhogle, and the subsequent commentary on MI’s performance highlights the passionate debates and discussions that often surround cricket, both on and off the field.
