Liverpool Football Club has reached a compensation deal with Feyenoord to secure Arne Slot as their next manager, succeeding Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure earlier this season.
The Reds have agreed to pay Feyenoord £7.7 million (9 million euros), with potential add-ons of £1.7 million (2 million euros), bringing the total compensation package to £9.4 million. Slot, who led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2022-23 and secured the Dutch Cup this season, is poised to take over the helm at Anfield pending the finalization of his contract.
Liverpool’s decision to appoint Arne Slot is influenced by his track record of success, particularly his attacking style of play and his adeptness in player development. The 45-year-old Dutchman’s managerial prowess has caught the attention of top clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim were also rumored contenders for the managerial position. However, Alonso opted to stay with Bayer Leverkusen, while Slot emerged as the preferred choice for Liverpool.
