Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Pravin Amre expressed concern over Mitchell Marsh hamstring injury, labeling it as a “worrying sign” for the team’s campaign in the ongoing IPL 2024 season.
Following DC’s 29-run loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, Amre revealed the extent of Marsh’s injury, stating, “He has gone for a scan and the physios will give us a report in a week’s time. Then we will come to know what the exact situation is. Whether he can [play the entire season] or not depends on the reports.”
Mitchell Marsh, who initially opened the batting for DC alongside David Warner, has faced setbacks due to his injury, forcing him to drop down the batting order to No. 3. His injury occurred during DC’s fourth game against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he sustained the setback during his bowling spell and later walked out to bat, only to be dismissed for a two-ball duck.
The injury not only impacts DC’s campaign but also raises concerns for the Australia team management, considering Marsh’s pivotal role in leading Australia at the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.
With a history of injuries, Marsh’s participation in IPL seasons has often been marred by setbacks. Despite being an integral part of DC’s lineup, injuries have limited his appearances, reflecting in his participation in only 42 games over eight seasons.
Alongside Marsh, DC has also faced the absence of Kuldeep Yadav due to a groin niggle, further complicating their team composition. Amre anticipates Kuldeep’s return after missing “one or two games” more, while Mukesh Kumar, sidelined for two matches, is expected to make a comeback in DC’s next match against Lucknow Super Giants.
As DC aims to bounce back from their recent defeats, injuries to key players pose significant challenges for the team. Amre emphasized the importance of regaining momentum despite setbacks, highlighting the impact of injuries on the team’s overall performance.
