In a bid to elevate the fitness levels and training standards of Pakistan’s national cricketers, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed plans for a ten-day training camp in collaboration with the Pakistan Army. The announcement came from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi during an address to several players at a hotel in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Scheduled to take place from March 25 to April 8, the training camp follows closely after the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and is designed to intensify players’ fitness regimens. Naqvi emphasized the importance of enhancing players’ performance, especially in terms of hitting powerful shots, citing the upcoming series against New Zealand, Ireland, England, and the T20 World Cup.
The training camp will be held at the renowned Kakul military academy, and the involvement of the Pakistan Army aims to bring a unique and disciplined approach to the players’ training routines. Despite the potential challenges posed by the hectic cricket schedule and the coinciding second half of the holy month of Ramadan, Naqvi expressed optimism about the effectiveness of the camp.
While acknowledging the significance of T20 leagues, Naqvi urged players to prioritize national commitments over lucrative league opportunities. Drawing from his personal experience, he highlighted the sacrifices made for the greater good, emphasizing that representing Pakistan should be the players’ foremost priority.
Addressing concerns about the absence of a coaching set-up at the national level, Naqvi assured the players that no expense would be spared in securing the best coaching staff. The PCB aims to allocate resources to enhance players’ fitness, training, and coaching to further elevate Pakistan’s cricketing standards at all levels.
The upcoming training camp serves as a testament to the PCB’s commitment to refining the skills and capabilities of the national cricket team, paving the way for continued success on the international stage.
