As the anticipation for the IPL 2024 season reaches fever pitch, murmurs of a potential venue shift to Dubai for the second half of the tournament have begun to circulate. Sources close to the matter reveal that the Election Commission of India’s imminent announcement of the election schedule has prompted discussions within the BCCI about relocating IPL matches to Dubai.
“The Election Commission’s announcement on Saturday will serve as a crucial factor in determining whether IPL matches will be moved to Dubai. Top BCCI officials are currently in Dubai, exploring the feasibility of organizing the latter half of the IPL in the UAE,” sources disclosed.
Speculation has been further fueled by reports indicating that some IPL teams have instructed their players to submit their passports, hinting at the possibility of a venue shift outside India. Notably, the first half of the 2014 IPL season was also held in the UAE due to general elections.
The BCCI has already unveiled the schedule for the first half of IPL 2024, comprising 21 matches, with the final match scheduled for April 7 in Lucknow between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The much-anticipated season kicks off with a thrilling encounter between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22 in Chennai.
Should the second half of the IPL indeed be relocated to Dubai, it would mark a return to the UAE for the prestigious tournament. The last time IPL matches were held in the Emirates was in 2020, when venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah hosted matches amidst the outbreak of the Covid pandemic in India.
As fans eagerly await further updates, the possibility of witnessing IPL action in Dubai adds a new layer of excitement to what promises to be an electrifying season of cricket.
