Former India speedster Sreesanth has voiced his support for the USA team, co-hosts of the T20 World Cup, to secure a spot in the Super 8 stage over Babar Azam-led Pakistan. He believes the USA “deserve it” based on their performances.
The situation for Pakistan remains tense. Their chances of progressing depend on Ireland defeating the USA on Friday. Should the USA prevail, Pakistan’s campaign will end prematurely, despite having one more match to play against Ireland on Sunday. However, a favorable outcome combined with a victory over Ireland could see Pakistan advance on net run rate (NRR).
Sreesanth, speaking as an expert on the ‘Caught and Bold’ program, expressed skepticism about Pakistan’s prospects. “I don’t think Pakistan is following the needed routine. They don’t focus on their domestic leagues. All of their legends, like Wasim bhai (Akram) and even Waqar Younis, say they need to change the entire system. So that says where they are going wrong. I will only say this to Pakistan: all the best for the next World Cup. If they come back from this position, it will be a miracle. I don’t think it will be easy,” he told ANI.
Pakistan supporters will be watching the upcoming match at the Florida stadium closely, where the USA will face Ireland. The USA team has demonstrated commendable discipline and skill, winning two out of their three matches against Pakistan and Canada. Despite their loss to India, the USA team put up a strong fight, with players like Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav showing resilience to secure the game for India.
USA Captain Monank Patel, Nitish Kumar, Saurabh Nethralvakar, and other stars have impressed with their performances, bolstering Sreesanth’s argument that the co-hosts deserve to continue their fairytale run in the tournament.
“One of the things about the T20 World Cup is that every team looks strong on paper. If we talk about planning and execution, the USA team prevailed because of their planning and execution in the past two years, and they have worked hard. I want the USA team to play in the Top 8 because they deserve it. They have done more than enough justice to be a part of the Top 8,” Sreesanth added.
As the group stage draws to a close, Pakistan will face Ireland on Sunday in a decisive match that will determine their fate in the T20 World Cup.
