In a historic move, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the interim Chief Minister of the State of Punjab, has been elected as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The unanimous decision was reached during a meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Naqvi, a well-read and erudite media mogul, now holds the prestigious position as the 37th chairman of the PCB.
The election took place under the chairmanship of interim chairman Shah Khawar, and Naqvi will serve a three-year term starting from Tuesday. This marks a significant development for the PCB, which has been without a full-time chairman since December 2022. The removal of former national captain Ramiz Raja led to interim appointments by Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf before Naqvi’s unanimous election.
Expressing gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in him, Naqvi stated, “I am deeply honored and humbled to have been unanimously elected as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. I am fully committed to upgrading the standard of the game in the country and bringing professionalism in the administration of cricket in Pakistan.”
Naqvi’s diverse background, including a training stint at CNN in the U.S. and ownership of the Pakistani channel 24 News, positions him as a leader with a unique perspective to steer the PCB towards excellence in the cricketing world. The cricket fraternity now looks forward to witnessing the positive impact of Naqvi’s leadership on Pakistan’s cricketing landscape.
