Tamim Iqbal, the former captain of Bangladesh, is set to make a comeback in competitive cricket during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This decision means he won’t be part of the Test series against New Zealand and the subsequent white-ball series. The announcement followed an impromptu meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board president, Nazmul Hasan. Tamim, who opted out of the recent World Cup, expressed his decision at a media briefing at his residence.
“I felt it was time to make a decision about my international future after the World Cup. Transparency has always been my approach in matters of career decisions,” said Tamim.
Despite the timing, just before the Test match, Tamim expressed regret, emphasizing the necessity of the announcement given the meeting’s timing. Discussions during the meeting focused on Tamim’s future plans, with Nazmul suggesting delaying decisions until January due to his commitments related to national parliamentary elections.
“I believe I will resume playing cricket with the Bangladesh Premier League. This will provide a clearer idea of my future direction in the sport,” Tamim disclosed.
Tamim expressed respect for the board’s decision and willingness to wait until January for further discussions. In response, Nazmul Hasan conveyed his intention to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Tamim’s absence from the World Cup, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive understanding before making decisions.
