Mumbai Indians made a big move, trading for Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans and sending Cameron Green to the Royal Challengers Bangalore. This helps Mumbai financially for the IPL player auction on December 19.
The Titans get an extra INR 15 crore, which is Hardik’s salary, plus an additional fee from Mumbai. Hardik might get up to half of that fee.
These trades happened after the 5 pm IST deadline for teams to share their lists of retained and released players. Mumbai released 11 players before the deadline, freeing up INR 15.25 crore. Trading Green to RCB added INR 17.50 crore to their budget.
Mumbai tried player swaps with at least two teams before the deadline, but those deals fell through.
The Gujarat Titans picked Hardik as one of their three players before the 2022 mega auction. Under Hardik’s captaincy, they won the IPL in 2022 and reached the final in 2023.
In his two seasons with the Titans, Hardik did well, scoring 833 runs and taking 11 wickets. Mumbai released him before the 2022 mega auction, and the Titans signed him as their captain.
