Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli is set to extend his absence from the ongoing Test series against England, missing both the third and fourth Tests in Rajkot and Ranchi, respectively. Kohli had initially withdrawn from the first two Tests, citing personal reasons, and his continued unavailability raises concerns for Team India.
The third Test is scheduled at Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium starting from February 15, followed by the penultimate Test at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi from February 23. There are also lingering doubts about Kohli’s participation in the fifth Test in Dharmasala, commencing on March 6.
Selectors are anticipated to announce the squad for the remaining Tests this week. The selection committee chairman, Ajit Agarkar, or top BCCI officials may engage in discussions with Kohli to gain clarity on his availability.
In a significant boost for Team India, key players KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the second Test in Vizag due to injuries, are expected to return for the third Test.
The reason behind Kohli initial withdrawal was unveiled by close friend and former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel. De Villiers shared that Kohli is anticipating the arrival of his second child, emphasizing the priority Kohli places on family.
“Yes, his second child is on the way. It’s family time, and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision,” stated De Villiers, echoing support for Kohli’s decision to prioritize family commitments.
