In preparation for the upcoming challenging Test series against Australia, West Indies have revealed a squad featuring seven uncapped players. Notable absentees include Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers, both opting for T20 franchise cricket. Exciting young bowler Jayden Seales is unavailable due to a shoulder injury. The squad includes new faces such as Zachary McCaskie, Tevin Imlach, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Kevin Sinclair, Akeem Jordan, and Shamar Joseph.
Captain Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the team, with Alzarri Joseph as the new vice-captain. Senior players, including Brathwaite, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva, and Kemar Roach, bring experience to a squad where nearly half the players have no Test experience. Desmond Haynes, West Indies’ lead selector, expressed confidence in the team, acknowledging the challenges of playing in Australia but emphasizing the talent unearthed through the region’s strong red-ball program.
The West Indies Test squad will undergo a training camp in Adelaide from January 2-9 before engaging in a four-day game against a Cricket Australia XI at Karen Rolton Oval from January 10-13. The series against Australia commences with the first Test on January 17, with additional matches scheduled in Brisbane. The tour also includes three ODIs and three T20Is in early February.
